COMBINATION PRESS INSTALLED

Limpet Labels UK Limited have installed their first Reel To Reel 725 combination press in the UK at their Wrexham head-quarters.

Highly specified, the six colour machine runs a combination of flexo with a UV drying and Stork rotary silkscreen unit, corona treater, laminator, two rotary die stations, video web inspection and dual rewind.

The company specialises in self-adhesive labelling for the chemical industry involving complicated linework and heavy solids printed on a variety of substrates on very short runs. Due to the nature of its work, the company has in the past found it difficult to acquire printing presses that fulfil their demand for extreme versatility. Extensive print trials where carried out with a number of press manufacturers, many produced good process work, but frequently Limpet found the quality on heavy linework fell short of their requirements.

The tests involved running very bold solids in a variety of greens and blues with six point reversed out type at varying speeds. The Reel To Reel 725 press was the only one of those tested to eliminate ghosting and gearmarking and offer make-ready times to suit the company’s short run market. The system features quick change impression cylinders installed as standard; modular construction; a special closed loop web tension device to iron out material inaccuracies, and give complete digital web control, per section, from the unwind through the web edge guide, the print and processing sections, waste matrix and rewind.

Limpet Labels managing director Lee Good stated, ‘Reel To Reel UK Limited have serviced and maintained our existing machinery for many years and their service in second to none. Their press more than exceeded our print requirements and was highly flexible which will obviously help our further expansion in the future, we were left in no doubt as to which press would be our choice, the fact the machine is manufactured in the UK is just another plus.’
