Look at all the package printing and product decoration sectors and it is labels, particular self adhesives and the newer sleeving, wraparound and in-mould technologies that still have some of the highest levels of growth.

To a large degree based around filmic face materials, these labelling solutions today are able to offer more in terms of performance, image and, perhaps more importantly, downguaging to meet packaging waste and environmental legislations. All necessary for the longer term future of the label industry.

Combined with new inline converting possibilities relating to embossing, cold foiling, holograms, silicone and adhesive printing, etc, the narrow web label sectors probably have more to offer the label buyer than ever before, with the whole area of digital technology still to fully impact the label production market, the longer term possibilities will become even greater.

In this, and subsequent issues this year, we will continue to review these many areas and topics, starting with wraparound, cold foiling and digital developments in this issue. Make sure to read these features to be at the forefront of industry developments.
