We have very recently produced some very interesting labels for an even more interesting company – printed self-adhesive water-soluble labels to go on their refillable detergent containers.
Less is a fairly new initiative, that started in 2021 in Brighton. Their main goal is to provide products that prevent plastic waste and at the same time – save their customers money.
“Less was born out of a frustration at plastic waste, especially seeing how little major consumer goods companies were doing to address it
We think it’s appalling that many branded products are made so far away, even overseas, then shipped in ready-to-use plastic containers on diesel powered trucks to supermarkets where they are bought and the packaging used once and dumped. We offer two complementary refill and reuse systems that enable brands to deliver products direct to consumers without single-use plastic.”
What is a closed loop system and why does it makes such a difference?
“A true closed loop (or circular) system means the material used in the packaging is returned to the system to be reused
In theory, recycling can enable this, but it’s rarely achieved. Plastic bottles usually get recycled into items like garden furniture or synthetic materials rather than new plastic bottles
This downcycling merely delays the disposal of plastic waste on its journey to landfill or incinerators
Reuse systems prevent plastic waste by using the exact same packaging over and over and over again. Stainless steel bottles can be used a hundred times or more, glass bottles will probably break before they need to be decommissioned
And when these bottles eventually become tired or broken, and we take them out of circulation, the recycling infrastructure for these materials is well established”
We’re positive this solution must appeal to anybody who has sustainability at heart. We are happy to be able to be a part of this. The labels we are printing for Less are printed on a paper material with water soluable adhesive. What that means is that the label with simply disintegrate after being submerged in water for a while. This way the stainless steal containers can be reused for another product, with no adhesive residue. We have all experinced the unpleasant dissapointment of unsuccesful label removal, with sticky remenants of the glue making it impossible to use the product for anything again… You will haver none of the with water-soluble labels!
