We know how important your labels <\/strong><\/a>are for your business – you’ve only got a a few seconds to grab your customers attention. We’ve prepared a few tips to help you understand the process of designing labels a bit better and as a result, have a fantastic looking product. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firstly, let’s look at how the customer chooses the product. Fiona Mills, marketing director at Avery UK, says: “We suspected there was more to the science of label design than might first meet the eye, but the discoveries have been extremely enlightening. We can now speak with the utmost authority to say that labels really do make a difference to the performance of small businesses. Key outcomes from the study included the importance of catching the eye, with bright colours and large labels making consumers stop and look, while bold lines, borders and stripes saw a label viewed 42 percent more than plainer labels nearby. Once a consumer\u2019s attention has been captured, the best way to hold it and convert it into a desired outcome (purchase or a positive opinion of a brand) is to make the brain think and engage with the product or package. This can be achieved through emotion, information, priming, decision-making shortcuts and curiosity. ” So how do we start?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Focus on the essentials<\/strong>. Apart from the name of your product, your logo, size, weight, quantity, ingredients and directions for use, what can you say about the product? Is there a personal touch? A story you can add?<\/li>
  2. Digital print or flexographic print?<\/strong> Printing method will determine certain things, like numbers of colours you can use or how often you can change the design. <\/li>
  3. Colour palette<\/strong>. What are you trying to convey? What is the label saying about your product, what emotion you are trying to evoke? Here <\/strong><\/a>is a good example of using colour to your advantage.<\/li>
  4. Typography<\/strong>. Most importantly – make sure your label is easily readable. Choosing the right font and positioning it correctly might take some time, but it is crucial. Here <\/strong><\/a>you can find some additional tips on typography in design.<\/li>
  5. Space<\/strong>. Try not to overcrowd the label with unnecessary text and images. Remember – less is more! <\/li>
  6. Style<\/strong>. Research current trends and try to design your label to be contemporary. Stay original, authentic and unique. Do you want your label to be simple and bold, or maybe you prefer minimalistic design paired with curious paper texture?<\/li>
