GHS and chemical labelling is becoming increasingly important in today’s production and manufacturing processes. With chemicals being shipped all over the world it is imperative a universal system is widely available for identification to inform users about potential hazards through standard symbols, becoming instantly recognisable to ensure worldwide understanding.

How GHS Information should appear

Signal Words

The CLP Regulation also introduces two new signal words: Danger and Warning.

Warning Diamonds

The labelling requirements of GHS dictate that no Warning Diamonds can be left unpopulated, and must be clearly visible to the end user. The labels must also be BS5609 approved, which is the standard widely used as an indicator of a very robust label.

Precautionary Statements

Hazard statements should describe the nature of the hazard in the substance mixture e.g “Toxic if swallowed” or “Causes serious eye damage”. Precautionary statements should explain to the end user the recommended measures to minimise or prevent adverse effects resulting in exposure to a hazardous substance.
